eik studio is a multi-disciplinary design studio in Kingston, NY focusing residential & commercial design & build projects in the Hudson Valley. 

Passion project of designer Hamish Thain.

After a 20 yr career in consumer product design & development, he found himself looking for something more meaningful.

Designing for sustainability is Hamish's focus.

It is hard to move the sustainability needle in consumer products, the opportunities to affect real change are few & far between.

Tight budgets & timelines, and "the elephant in the room" (a continued focus on growth/consumption) make it difficult for brands to invest in the planet.

In 2019 Hamish started 2 side-projects that would set him on the path to founding eik studio.

After a decade of research & interest in building science. Hamish started a design project for a Net-Zero passive house in Kerhonkson, NY.

At the same time he was approached to partner on a development project for a derelict building on Main St. Kerhonkson into a vibrant new business featuring a restaurant, bar & provisions store.

These projects catapulted Hamish into the world of construction & he discovered his "happy place".

Building on 20 yrs of design, management, development & leadership with a crash course in construction management, permitting, bidding, sourcing, ROI & building.

In 2024 Hamish left his job as the head of Ammunition's NY studio & founded eik studio.
